molotov is dead, molotov will live forever.
Had to be done. It was with heavy yet hopeful hearts that we decided it was time to change the band name. If people are turning up at your shows to see a band from Mexico then you have an issue that needs addressing. molotov was christened back in 2004 and the band survived death, substance abuse, life upheaval and uncountable hangovers. It was a massive part of my life and I’d like to thank Dave, Rob, Bruce, Kengo (RIP), Mike and Luke for being a part of it with me. I’d also like to thank everyone who came to over a decade of live shows, supported us by buying our music, and the brewers of fine beer. So, reading this you might be thinking we’re done, but in truth, we’re only just beginning……
Game Over Humans is the new name. Over a Korean feast we finally decided to take the plunge and settled on a name we’re all stoked about. It’d spoil the mystery to explain in detail why we chose this name, but political and environmental factors evident in 2016 were certainly catalysts. Anyway, we hope you like it.
December saw us play two shows, let’s begin with Nagoya and GC Live. On a chilly night we ventured to a familiar venue and the night kicked off with some awesome rock covers from WKZ. Ray Proper is a gifted, powerful vocalist in a band of seasoned talented musicians. We then took the stage and did our best to play a set of songs old and new that would get the crowd going. Despite the occasional brain fart, I think we succeeded in doing that. By the way, if you’re about to unleash a rock attack on an audience, there is only one food that you need to consume, and that is chicken on sticks.
Next came Toyohashi and The House of Crazy. For this show we wanted to play with a mix of different artists that would provide an eclectic mix of cultures and sounds. Shinshu Jinshu came all the way from Fukui to treat us to their Japanese Hip-Hop. They also joined us on stage for a version of Astronaut that really worked. We hope we can work with them again in the future. Arigatou guys! Double-Tap Kill are a new band who have a killer set of covers and originals. They are metal enough to please metal-heads with a sensibility to please less hardened ears, too. Obrigado to them! Let’s do it again sometime. Toyohashi has always shown us love, and tonight was no exception. We took the stage and rocked. It was particularly pleasing that our new songs went over so well. The party continued at Atlantika after the show, and the next morning I felt as if I’d contracted a disease - self-induced of course.
2017 will be a massive year for us. 2016 was about change, but this next year will be about growth. We’ve got the songs and now it’s about people hearing them. Our single will be out early next year, followed by a mini-album of all new original material. We’re also doing shows at GC Live on January 14th and then off to KJ’s in Gifu on the 28th.
Game Over Humans is the here and now. No resistance to change.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all. Let’s hope the world becomes a better place in 2017.
Lots of love and sloppy wet kisses from Pete, Rob, Mike and Luke x
