Chris Cornell...R.I.P dude!

I was going to write a short post about recent events with the band that probably would have included a comment about how I couldn't practice or play the bass for one week, as I got slammed with a 3 day fever and other horrible symptoms associated with being sick. But I'm not going to do that. I'm also not going to write about sucking it up to do the gig at GC with The Jerks. We need to do that again sometime now that I can enjoy the party! I feel like I missed out on a good night, as I left as soon as we had finished the set and went home to bed. The Jerks know how to turn a gig into a party, and I wanted to be a part of that! The gig for me was very sober but fun, and may have actually contributed to me coming right. Was it the music, or that disgusting, 'healthy' green drink I drank at the pub before the gig??!! Regardless, I'm back in action and pumped for the Chubu Walkathon Charity gig that we are playing at with a bunch of other talented local acts. http://en.chubuwalkathon.com/schedule If you can make it, you're in for a treat! Live music, cold beers and warm weather...need I say more!

Yesterday, I read on FB the shocking news that I didn't initially believe. As soon as I read a post that said "Hoax!" I held on to it for as long as I could. Chris Cornell's passing is something that made me see a side of myself that I don't see very often. I try to avoid getting emotionally involved with the deaths of celebrities and musicians. The argument that I see on social media that I relate to most would be, “Thousands of people die every day. A celebrity’s death is no more or less important.” I've often questioned why people mourn someone they don't know, but the truth of the matter is in a sense, we do know them, as they have been a part of our lives to some degree and have influenced who we are, regardless of whether we have met them or not. The weirdest thing is that I had just read a post in the Soundgarden FB page on Wednesday and was thinking that is how I feel about being in GOH.

“What I look forward to the most -- because I tour so much, especially the last couple of years, by myself -- is the camaraderie. It’s what we missed when we weren’t a band.” - Chris Cornell

Chris Cornells death has affected me in a way I wasn't expecting, as it has other members of the band. We grew up listening to Soundgarden, along with other bands from the time. Badmotorfinger was my intro to Soundgaren and it blew my mind. The supergroups he was a part of were awesome, too. Audioslave and Temple of the Dog put out great music. His solo album, Scream, was a huge disappointment for me at the start, but after a few listens in the car, I was hooked and it is still one of my go-to albums. Listen to it and if it doesn't grab you at the start, listen to it a few more times. Great album!

Speaking of album, Game Over Humans went into News90 studio in Nagoya, and Mike and I laid down all the bass and drum tracks for our first GOH album. All the original songs you have heard us play live will be on the album, including a little surprise that is requested at our gigs. We're looking forward to releasing that this year, so start saving your liver for the release party.
